Chester Arnold Project

Chester Arnold’s art work seems to me that his main focus of his art work is about global warming and how we the people of the earth are destroying the beautiful and natural environment. We are destroying the environment by throwing trash everywhere and into the deep blue seas. It seems as if he does these painting because he is trying to send us a message saying that the environment is like a picture its worth a million words and that if we don’t take care of it, it’s going to get ruined. The environment is a precious thing and if we don’t learn from our mistakes now it’s going to end up bad for us.
The Chester Arnold’s piece that I chose to write about is titled “Thy Will be done, 2006”. My first impression when I saw this painting really reminded me of the Holocaust because of how the people were grouped up and injured. The surrounding area reminds me of how an internment camp looked like. In the top left hand corner was a ditch that looked to be made to bury the dead people around all around the picture. The Police officer seems to be just standing around not really caring about the violence or the crimes that are going on in the picture.
It seems to me that the meaning of the picture is that the people in have lost hope and the will to live. It is as if GOD has abandoned them and they choose not to have the will to fight and live anymore. The men who are mad in the picture could be frustrated with the way they are being treated in this picture. There was no description on this picture but this would be my best interpretation of this painting.

  1. Good interpretation but it is still a "first impression" not backed up with any research.
